Both artists have work directly linked to their environment. They incorporate everything around them into their art. Brazilian, Niura Bellavinha was born in the region of Minas Gerais, a state renowned for the richness of its mines and precious stones. There, the earth has an iron-red color... visible in the works presented at the exhibition. The artist integrates natural elements into her work. Whether she is performing, installing, or painting, the Brazilian artist constantly explores the characteristics and intrinsic possibilities of water, earth, and meteorites. Her interest in these elements goes hand in hand with a particular reflection on how to give shape to her ideas. Having participated in numerous exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, her works are now featured in collections such as the Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection in Rio de Janeiro, the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, and the Inhotim Contemporary Art Center in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais. Denis Jutzeler, on the other hand, was born in Switzerland. A graduate of the renowned Vevey School of Photography, he freely draws inspiration from the nature around him, the branches, and the leaves... Diverse vegetation that the artist cuts, pastes, transforms, and superimposes. He reinterprets it in his own way, creating a new, balanced, and perfectly composed image each time. Together, his images form a film. A sensitive artist, he transitions between photography and cinema, capturing the most subtle details. Through his lens as a director of photography in cinema, the viewer is invited to travel into his universe. Regularly awarded for the uniqueness of his camera work in documentary or fiction films, Denis Jutzeler received the Quartz for Best Cinematography in Swiss Cinema in 2014. In 2010, his work received the Swiss Photo Award. We invite you to discover the work of Niura Bellavinha and Denis Jutzeler in the 'Surroundings' exhibition. The opening will take place on Saturday, November 11, from 11 am, during the Geneva Contemporary Art weekend. |
