Melting Pot
Artists: Niura Bellavinha, Victoire Cathalan, Alyaa Kamel, Martin La Roche, Nicolas Lieber, Gabriela Maciel and Ozi.
Opening: September 16, 2014, from 6p.m.
Exhibition: from September 17 through November 9, 2014
The Melting Pot exhibition intends to be a "diversity manifest" by presenting in the same space artists of various origins and multiple influences. A meeting that is part of the quest for an alliance between different worlds. This approach is reminiscent of the mix of cultures where the City of Calvin, Geneva, is itself the reflection. In this sense, art appropriates and creates the "Melting pot" phenomenon, a concept born in a collective impetus where legacies collide and intertwine.
espace _L gallery aims to engage interaction between the Brazilian and European contemporary art, gathering artists such as Niura Bellavinha, Victoire Cathalan, Alyaa Kamel, Martin La Roche, Nicolas Lieber, Gabriela Maciel and Ozi on the Melting Pot.
This mix is designed to provide the viewer a new saying combining works from diverse worlds, full of similarities and discrepancies. This combination of works suggests a cultural lineage where features and artistic influences from everywhere create a subtle metamorphosis of genres.
Over here we approach an urban atmosphere that combines colors and stencils, there is a plastic reflection on the intrinsic properties of nature, and over there is a work about material and shapes. The result suggests the exploration conducted by artists, as a vision of their own microcosm - their home environment - to be shared and compared to more distant influences.
The artists presented in this exhibition work with materials which, depending on their rearrangements generate creations with a particular intensity. The exploration of color increases this mix deeply marked by lively festive and colorful atmosphere, or on the other way, create a clean atmosphere in black and white, where contrasts are profoundly marked in the works, either pictorial or photographic.
Melting Pot combines various and sometimes contradictory compositions. A shock and a meeting which will lead to a definition. A place where we can identify ourselves, reconnect to the parts of us; a place where one can feel at home.
