Charles Husser, with a lot of humour, dialogue with his Family: his family of painters, his masters and those he watches every day in the workshop. It appropriates their Members, party of body or object in relation to the body, to create attractive forms. His polymorphic art, like that of Baselitz, still represents today, as it was 30 or 40 years ago, an aesthetic and intellectual challenge.
The neo-expressionist inspirations of Tàpies or Baselitz, among many others, can be found in Husser’s work. The analogy expressed by the artist between the members of the body and the members of his family is nevertheless remarkable in our time.
Julien Spiewak approaches the body with another look. His photographic project «Corps de style», reproduces with irony but also with elegance and refinement the projection of the Being and the Body in the places and the atours that belong to its history. It is not only the body that is adorned but that is stripped, becomes part of a whole and becomes ornamental in itself. He talks about the analogy between body parts and furniture. The taste for period furniture, interior architecture and other family stories are part of the universe of this photographer who has been represented since 2016 by the Espace_L.
Through an established dialogue between artists Charles Husser and Julien Spiewak, the exhibition The Members of My Family aims to show distinct interpretations around the word “members”.
