espace _L presents a joint exhibition of Niura Bellavinha, Julio Villani and Vasilis Zografos with works ranging from figurative to abstract painting using the same technique of oil on canvas. Fundamental issues such as temporality, the object and the way of expressing are the main focus of these artists.
The oil painting is noticed in different historical periods and in several artistic and cultural contexts, which places it as an extremely influential medium used in the universal culture.
Oil on canvas, a technique used by many painters, was often used in the early fifteenth century, after a long path traced by numerous brushes and various mediums. In this context, the works of Zografos can be considered studies of still life, when in reality his work refers to a political critic of the past few years in Greece. With obvious references to archeology, Vasilis highlights that mass consumerism is a characteristic phenomena of each luxurious lifestyle decay period.
Meanwhile, "the question of identity that weaves Julio Villani’s process is not only apprehended through the line, whether the division binding or an equilibrium, but throughout his investigation on memory (... ) that allows him to intertwine two temporal frames in order to create a third one that gives the resulting work its singular identity". Ph Piguet, Prologue of the monograph..": it's (a ga) me, "Ed Bookstorming, Paris 2010.
Finally nature, a common element to the three artists, is a central theme of Nuria Bellavinha’s works, who reinterprets the screen as a full pot. She uses the water stream at the back of the canvas creating spots and forms she calls "infiltration". Such infiltrations represent the inner and outer paint sweating, strongly related to the human bodies; the engine and the vector that inspire a fluid speech of unexpected connections.
