Marquages
The works of Sarah Garbarg and Gabriela Maciel gathered here reveal their respective ways to evoke and express their idea of space. Each artist invites the viewer to reflect on this notion by individual steps.
In the work of the French Sarah Garbarg, especially in her series of drawings developed from plans of cities, the reference to the figures, calculations, and a look for objectivity suggests a Cartesian method. At the same time, skinning, black and white and empty pave the way for a playful side. A bit like the games of children in which only a few points are given and a form appears only by lines connecting them, Garbarg's work invites the viewer to create his own space. The subtle blend of logic and poetry inspiring imagination.
In Gabriela Maciel, the instinctive gesture. Prevales for the realization of her works, the Brazilian artist establishes guidelines that will serve her starting as benchmarks and for the work that will be built. In fact, it is the now and the creative process itself are central to her work. One of those moments would be the explosion, that we could see at the artist’s series of photographs showing piles of rubble pearls. These explosions could be considered as evidence of that time which would be the passage of the solid form of his sculptures to the fluid performance for which this same material is used.
Thus, in the two approaches presented here, concepts such as deconstruction and construction, measure and excess come into play for the notion of space, representation or perception can be enriched with various options.
