Exhibition from September 13th to October 21st, 2023
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment
The solo exhibition of artist Fernando de la Rocque (1979), "The Ferdinand Effect," presents an imaginary dialogue between the Swiss artist, Ferdinand Hodler (1853 – 1918), and the Brazilian, Fernando de la Rocque. De la Rocque's sensual gaze was inspired by three works by Hodler that combine nudity and time: "Day," 1914 - Musée d’Art et d’Histoire Genève; "Night," 1889/90 - Kunstmuseum Bern; and "The Gaze into Infinity" - Musée Cantonal de Beaux-Arts Lausanne. "The Ferdinand Effect" permeated him, making him work compulsively. Fernando created sketches, embroideries, and rubbings - as he calls them - with his wax pencils on paper. Ferdinand and Fernando found themselves in the same language, inspired by parallelism and symbolism.
Artist Nacoca Ko will provide a counterpoint to "The Ferdinand Effect" through performances inspired by female archetypes.
We invite you to discover "The Ferdinand Effect" at espace_L.
Musical encounter on October 13, 2023, starting at 6 p.m.
The gallery espace_L and Musika invite you to meet Joyce Moreno, a reference in Brazilian music, and Louis Matute, for a free and intimate discussion, "canja," at espace_L, before their concert on October 17th at the Alhambra.
A first collaboration with the association Musika.
