RVB
Opening May19th, 2016
Exhibition until July 2nd, 2016
Featuring:
Jean Jeanneret and Denis Jutzeler
Color is the visual perception of the spectral distribution of visible light. RVB is the French acronym for the English "RGB - Red, Green, Blue". RVB is the simplest color-coding system in computing. The computer screens restore a color additive synthesis using three primary colors, red, green and blue. These colors are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors. RVB data indicates the intensity for each of these primary colors in a digital platform – Wikipedia
The RVB exhibition presents an encounter between Jean Jeanneret and Denis Jutzeler, two artists from the Ecole de Photographie de Vevey, Switzerland. From different generations, Jeanneret and Jutzeler´s lives meet in the film industry. Always related to technology, their work responded to technological transformations in a very particular way. Jeanneret sets himself in the deepest simplicity. His images laid over an acrylic surface, always in the same format, have shapes and colors that remind us of childhood and all that is essential. Jutzeler express the complexity of nature and mankind. In his work, the artist transforms a basic image by adding endless layers onto it until he achieves the aimed photographic work with a singular aesthetic, style and research.
Originally from Romont FR, Jean Jeanneret trained as a photographer, filmmaker and, he transcended genres as an artist. Jeanneret is a photographic alchemist. Working from scanned analogical negatives, Jean Jeanneret manipulates the digitalized images over several layers. This experience leads us to his cosmic world where painting becomes a fractal object. His current works illustrate a photographic and artistic approach to imagery that qualifies his pieces as photographic paintings.
Born in 1956, Denis Jutzeler lives and works in Geneva. His work combines a constant and personal photographic practice with a cinematographic career initiated in the 90s. In 2009, his work receives the Swiss Photo Award and, in 2014, it receives the Quartz for Best Photography of Swiss Cinema. Denis Jutzeler photographs portraits a nature that passes by unnoticed. The images await an almost reassuring banality that pushes the artist towards a strong desire of rebuilding. There is a certain vertigo in these intertwined woods and branches. Jutzeler intervenes on the multiplication of layers in his digital images, either enlarging or distorting them, he changes whatever he finds necessary to reach the desired final work.
